Paphos and Kourion From Ayia Napa: Is the Long Day Worth It?

Updated October 19, 2026 · 5 min read

Ancient stone amphitheatre with rows of seats facing a wide blue bay under a clear sky

Worth it if you want the ancient sites and the west coast in one day and accept a lot of time on a coach: the Paphos and Kourion day trip costs €55 per person, lasts 10 hours and is rated 4.6 from 680 reviews on GetYourGuide. It is the most reviewed of the three Paphos trips listed from Ayia Napa. The price is fair for what is listed. What you should weigh is how little of the 10 hours is on foot.

How the 10 hours are split

The listing’s itinerary gives times, with a note that itineraries are subject to change:

  • Coach time: the legs add up to roughly 4 hours 20 minutes.
  • Kourion: a guided tour of about 45 minutes at the archaeological site, with its Greco-Roman amphitheatre looking over the bay.
  • Aphrodite’s Rock: about 20 minutes of free time at the sea stack.
  • Yeroskipou: about 15 minutes to taste traditional sweets such as loukoumia at a sweets shop.
  • Paphos Harbour: about 2 hours of free time. The listing suggests lunch, Paphos Castle or the House of Dionysus mosaics.
  • Choirokoitia: a 15-minute break on the way.

That is about 3 hours 35 minutes of stops and 4 hours 20 minutes of driving, just under 8 hours in all. The listing does not say how the rest of the 10 hours is used. Pickup and drop-off cover 31 points in Ayia Napa, Protaras and Larnaca, so allow for the bus collecting everyone at the start and end.

What is included

Hotel pickup and drop-off, an air-conditioned coach, a guide, the entrance fees and guided tour of Kourion and the Paphos mosaics, and the sweets tasting. Lunch, drinks and tips are not included. The listing asks you to bring comfortable shoes, sunglasses, a sun hat and sunscreen. It says the trip is not suitable for people with mobility impairments, and one October reviewer who praised the guide and driver still wished access were better at the sites.

Several reviewers name their guide and praise the commentary, and the review summary scores the guide 4.8, transport 4.7 and value for money 4.6. One guest called Kourion amazing, even in the rain, but named Aphrodite’s Rock the best part.

The second tour is run by another operator and visits the Tombs of the Kings, which the first does not list. Its listing says entrance fees are included, a moderate amount of walking is involved, children must be accompanied by an adult and minimum numbers apply: a tour can be cancelled if too few people book, with an alternative or a full refund. It is not suitable for wheelchair users. The Polish tour is the dearest and the shortest, and the best rated of the three, from 169 reviews. Its itinerary lists Kourion, the royal tombs and the coastal rock and harbour.

Tour or drive yourself?

The coach saves you the driving, but it fixes the hours. A rental car lets you leave earlier, spend longer at Kourion and skip stops that do not interest you. It also means you drive both ways on the same day, on the left-hand side of the road, with you at the wheel the whole time. If you want a car for other days as well, you can compare car hire for Ayia Napa and check the excess, deposit and fuel rules of the specific offer before you book. For a single day trip, compare the tour price with the hire price plus fuel and parking before you decide.

When it is a bad idea

  • You get restless on long coach rides. More than four hours of the day is driving.
  • You want beaches or swimming. There are none in the itinerary.
  • You cannot walk on uneven ground for long. The sites are archaeological, and the listings advise against it for mobility impairments.
  • You have only a few days on the island. Ten hours is a large share of a short stay; the Blue Lagoon cruise is a lighter day.

Which one to book

  • First time in the west, English guide: the Paphos and Kourion day trip, €55.
  • You want the Tombs of the Kings too: the Kourion tour and Paphos town, €55.
  • Polish-speaking group: the Polish tour, €68.
  • You would rather go north than west: see Kyrenia and North Cyprus from Ayia Napa or all day trips across Cyprus.
